Canning Tomatoes Label

Canning tomatoes is something I have never done before. Saturday I am going to give it a try with my friends Beth and Brynne. I thought I would design a label for the jars and I wanted something vintage looking. What do you think?

I designed a blank one that you can download and write in our own name and date.

If you would like to use the same font as I did for the name and date, I used Campanile from Dafont.

I think I may make more canning labels in this style. Is there anything you are canning that needs a label?

Yellow Hair Clip

Here is another hair clip I made. Gotta love yellow and grey together.

I thought these were great colors for a baby, and I got a great idea. You can clip on this style of clip onto a newborn stretchy headband!

My good friend Courtney took these pictures and you can see more at

Thanks Courtney!

New pin design

Since cooler weather is approaching I thought I needed to design a pin for sweaters, coats and scarves.
Here is is!

I used silk to make the yoyo and added an antique button and feathers.

More versions with different materials are being made and I will share pictures when they are complete.

This pretty pin design needs a name, any ideas?

Pie Safe

The beautiful Pie Safe. Oh how I covet thee. Growing up in the south lots of families had a piece of furniture referred to as a pie safe, which hardly ever actually housed any pies.

Back in the day there was a version of pie safes where the cupboard door had decoratively pierced tin panels for ventilation. This kept a pie "safe" from flies and critters while it was cooling.

This one is from yellow garage antiques

I have seen pie safes with glass or screens in the doors as well. There are many great uses for this antique pieces of furniture. My favorite use is keeping a collection of treasures safe, dust free and still visible which lends my tastes to the glass or screen in the door type.

This is a hutch featured on There is no place like home blog that has screen doors like a pie safe.

The Mother Earth News features an article on how to build this replica pie safe if you have any interest in building one. There are lots of people still making them, but I think I prefer to have one worn and weathered with a little history.

Now  that I am thinking of pie does anybody have any great pie recipes for fall?

5K Run Poster Design for Extreme Rhythm

Check out the poster design I did for Extreme Rhythm clogging dance studio. They are having a 5K run to promote their studio. If you live in the Provo, Orem area you can go down there and run or even just buy breakfast and watch the run. Should be a lot of fun. See you there.

Cabin Weekend

In August I hung out with my friend Brynne at her family cabin, in the Utah Diamond Fork Canyon where their cattle are. I thought it would be fun to do a quick layout of a few of the pictures I took on my iphone. Wish I would have taken more.

We had a peacefully good time. Brynne made biscuits and gravy for breakfast, my favorite! With no internet or cell phone service we had plenty of time for reading, chasing a porch mouse, and a few crafts. We took out the four wheelers and went down to the cow trough to see if the gold fish she planted there were still thriving. They were hiding under the green moss but they were there. I wondered if the cows could see them.

This is Brynne.

Cows.

It was nice and sunny. I enjoyed watching Mr. Mike fix a well, I think can he can fix just about anything. They are almost finished building a new cabin and I tagged along to see how it was going.

Mr. Mike Miner.

That night Brynne pushed the mattresses out on the porch and piled them with blankets. She tucked my blankets in tightly just in case the porch mouse returned to pester us.

Beds in the morning.

Even though I love how we are more available to to others than ever before, be it, texts, emails, Facebook or blogs, I think if we can go under the radar sometimes we can feel the more important messages our heart tries to tell us that get lost in all the worldly noise. Every time I carve out moments to do this I return, more energized, focused and creative.

Wheel in the Porch railing.

Thanks Brynne for the simple weekend at the Miner Cabin.

What is digital scrapbooking?

For those of you who are curious about learning more about digital scrapbooking and making layouts like this one that I posted previously:

Here are the basics:
What is digital scrapbooking?
It is a  a form of scrapbooking that is done using a computer, digital or scanned photos and computer software. It's a relatively new form of the traditional print scrapbooking.

What do I use digital scrapbook layouts for?
Once a kit has been download to your computer, it can then be used over and over again to make scrapbook pages (scrapbook layouts) within the software program that you choose to use.

What are the advantages to digital scrapbooking?

My personal favorite the magical UNDO button. (CTRL+Z or Command+Z)

This means not destroying your expensive supplies or photos when trying new layouts that don't work. (Wish I had an undo button in my kitchen today!)
There is no waste, everything digital is reusable, which also means you can use the elements in unlimited ways.
For example, you can create layouts to share with friends on Facebook, blogs, or other social media.
Create desktop pictures, iphone wallpaper, cards, and more.
No mess to clean up.
No room completely taken over with traditional scrapbook supplies.
You can scrapbook anywhere you can carry your laptop.
Super easy to pick up where you left off, just save your work and go. No need for cleaning up or getting everything out again.
Not having only one book to pass down when you have more than one child because you do the layouts once and print multiple copies.
Not losing all your memories in a hurricane, earthquake or other natural disaster or because a toddler spilled kool-aid on it. You can make copies of your scrapbook layouts and back it up on CD's, HD's or online with free services like box.net.
You can print your layouts on durable archival photo paper a few layouts at a time, or submit your files to have them bound in a book. I recommend Persnickety Prints.
Digital scrapbooking takes less time and you can stay caught up.
Less stress since you can experiment without costly supplies being ruined.
No last minute trips to the craft store because you can find everything online 24 hours a day.
You can scrapbook anywhere you can carry your laptop.
Here is a link to a free kit
that I posted a while ago that will only be available til Sept. 15, 2011
Happy digi scrapping!
